Landscape Lighting Design & Installation

A property at night is a design decision. Regent5 designs and installs landscape lighting and outdoor lighting for estates across the San Francisco Bay Area, and because we are a C10 electrical and C7 low voltage licensed contractor, CSLB 1033103, the design, the transformers, the trenching, the circuits, and the control system all come from one team.

Landscape Lighting Design That Serves the Property

Good landscape lighting design starts with what the property wants to say at night: the specimen trees worth revealing, the facade lines worth tracing, the paths and steps that need quiet safety light, and the dark areas that should stay dark. We design in layers—uplighting for trees and architecture, path and step lighting for movement, wash and grazing light for texture—and place fixtures to hide the source and show the effect. Our landscape and outdoor lighting work spans Northern California, including Atherton, Woodside, Portola Valley, Hillsborough and San Mateo on the Peninsula; San Francisco; Napa and Sonoma; and the coastal gardens of Carmel and Pebble Beach, where salt air makes fixture selection its own discipline.

Landscape Lighting Installation Is Electrical Work

Landscape lighting is both a design and an electrical-infrastructure project. Regent5 coordinates transformer sizing and placement, low-voltage runs and voltage drop, trenching and conduit, protected circuits, weather-exposed connections, fixture placement, controls, and future service access as one scope. That allows the visual lighting plan and the electrical system behind it to be designed together rather than resolved independently in the field.

Our electrical and engineering work

A Design Build Package, Permits Included

As a C10 licensed electrical contractor we deliver the complete package as a design build outfit: the professional lighting design, the permit drawings and approvals, and the finished installation, including the line voltage supply and any panel capacity the system needs. One team owns the outcome from the first dusk walk of the property to the final aiming session, so nothing falls between a designer, an installer, and an electrician who have never met.

Exterior Fixtures and Smart Controls

Professional landscape-lighting systems can support layered scenes using uplights, path lights, wash lights, well lights, zoning, dimming and color-capable fixtures. Platforms such as FX Luminaire Luxor demonstrate these capabilities, with fixture and control choices matched to the planting, architecture, exposure, maintenance requirements and broader automation strategy of the property.

Coastal Source + Lutron Ketra Outdoors

We design and install Coastal Source lighting and audio systems built specifically for life outside, marine grade construction with patented Plug and Play connections that survive decades of irrigation and weather. And for properties where interior light quality should continue past the glass, Coastal Source's Ketra Ready fixtures bring Lutron Ketra full spectrum light outdoors: solid brass Modulus Bullet Lights running Ketra S30 lamps, with a weatherized gateway enclosure keeping them on the home's Lutron system. The color science that makes the living room remarkable follows you onto the terrace.

One System With the Rest of the Home

Landscape lighting reaches its potential when it belongs to the home's control system rather than a timer in the garage. We integrate the landscape into Lutron, Savant, Control4, Crestron, and Vantage systems, so the property follows astronomic schedules through the seasons, joins scenes such as evening arrival and entertaining, and shuts down with the goodnight command from the keypad by the bed. If the home has no automation yet, the landscape system is designed so it can join one later.

Designed for the Neighbors and the Night Sky

The mark of a professional landscape lighting design is what it does not do: it does not glare into the eyes of a guest walking toward the door, it does not shine into the bedroom next door, and it does not wash out the night sky above the property. Fixtures are aimed and shielded so light stays on your property where it belongs, and dark areas are left deliberately dark, because contrast is what makes the lit elements sing. The goal is a property that glows, not a property that shines. Contact us to walk your property at dusk, where the design conversation happens where the light will live.

Landscape Lighting Design & Installation FAQs

Can landscape lighting be added to an existing finished property?

Yes. Existing properties can often be upgraded with new fixtures, controls and wiring, but access, trenching, mature landscape and finished hardscape affect the design. Regent5 surveys the site first so routes and fixture locations can be planned with minimal disruption.

What does professional landscape lighting design include?

A professional design considers architecture, planting, pathways, views, gathering areas, safety, fixture concealment, beam spread, glare, controls, power, future growth and maintenance. The goal is a layered nighttime environment rather than simply placing fixtures around the perimeter.

Can landscape lighting integrate with Lutron, Savant, Control4, Crestron or Vantage?

Yes. Outdoor lighting can be coordinated with supported control platforms for scheduled scenes, pathway lighting, entertaining, security and all-off functions. The exact integration depends on the lighting-control architecture and the outdoor fixtures or transformers selected for the project.

How does Regent5 reduce glare and unwanted light spill?

Fixture position, aiming, beam angle, shielding, mounting height and dimming are coordinated so the source is controlled and the intended surface is illuminated. The design also considers neighboring properties, views from inside the home and the need to preserve darkness where light is not useful.

Can Coastal Source fixtures use Lutron Ketra outdoors?

Yes, in the manufacturer-supported Ketra-ready configuration. Coastal Source offers a Ketra-ready Modulus Bullet Light designed for the Ketra S30 lamp, plus an outdoor enclosure for the Lutron Clear Connect Gateway Type X. Regent5 coordinates the fixture, power, control and network requirements around the project.

When should landscape lighting infrastructure be planned on a new estate?

Before final hardscape, planting and site utilities are complete. Early planning allows conduit, sleeves, transformers, branch wiring, control locations and service access to be coordinated with grading, irrigation, drainage, gates, outdoor AV and other underground systems.

Should an estate use low-voltage or line-voltage landscape lighting?

Both can be appropriate. Low-voltage systems are common for landscape fixtures and can be flexible for zoning and future changes, while certain architectural or specialty fixtures use line voltage. The design should follow the fixture requirements, distances, voltage-drop considerations and control strategy.

How are long cable runs and voltage drop handled on large properties?

Large estates may require multiple transformers, carefully sized conductors, distributed power locations or different wiring methods. Regent5 plans loads and distances so remote fixtures receive appropriate voltage and the system remains serviceable as the landscape expands.

How does planting growth affect landscape lighting design?

Trees and shrubs change over time, so fixture positions, aiming and access should anticipate growth rather than only the day-one landscape. A serviceable design allows fixtures to be re-aimed, relocated or adjusted as canopies mature and sightlines change.

What should be considered for coastal, wet or exposed outdoor lighting locations?

Fixture materials, ratings, connections, drainage, salt exposure, irrigation and service access all matter. Coastal and exposed properties benefit from equipment selected specifically for the environment rather than using interior-grade or lightly protected hardware outdoors.

Does landscape lighting require ongoing maintenance?

Yes. Plant growth, soil movement, irrigation, weather and landscape work can affect aiming and fixture condition. Periodic cleaning, inspection, re-aiming, control review and adjustment help preserve the original design as the property changes.

How does a landscape lighting project start with Regent5?

Regent5 starts with the site plan, landscape design and a walk of the property when appropriate. We identify lighting goals, architectural and planting features, available infrastructure, control requirements and construction constraints, then develop a coordinated design and installation scope.
