Regent5 audits, takes over, repairs and modernizes existing smart-home, lighting-control and network systems for custom homes and estates. When the original integrator is gone or the property lacks reliable support, we document the installed systems, recover access where possible, stabilize current failures and establish a practical path to ongoing service.

An inherited or orphaned system does not automatically need to be replaced. Regent5 starts by identifying what is installed, what still works, who controls the accounts, what documentation exists and which failures are actually causing problems. The first objective is stability and control of the property, not a premature equipment sale.
Service & Support
Takeovers often expose problems outside the controller itself: weak Wi-Fi, undocumented VLANs, failing switches, overloaded racks, power quality, missing backups, lighting-control faults, shade issues and remote-access problems. Regent5 evaluates the system as one connected technical environment so the underlying infrastructure is corrected along with the user-facing symptoms.
Managed IT & Cybersecurity
We inventory controllers, processors, gateways, switches, access points, lighting panels, keypads, AV equipment, cameras, access-control devices, UPS systems and cloud services. We also map dealer-of-record status, customer accounts, subscriptions, programming files, remote-management tools and credentials so the homeowner understands what is truly under their control.
Smart Home Automation
The takeover plan separates equipment into three groups: keep, repair or reprogram, and replace. Supported hardware that is performing well stays in service. Misconfigured systems are corrected. Obsolete or unreliable components are replaced in a staged modernization plan that protects the owner's existing investment and reduces disruption.
Lutron Legacy Upgrades
Regent5 can assess and service existing Lutron, Control4, Savant, Crestron, Vantage and Josh.ai environments along with UniFi, Cisco Meraki, Ruckus, Araknis and Access Networks. Scope depends on the installed generation, account access, available programming files, current manufacturer support and the condition of the property's infrastructure.
Explore Supported Brands
A takeover is not complete when the immediate problem disappears. Regent5 documents the equipment, network, accounts, configuration state and known dependencies; verifies critical functions under real operating conditions; and leaves the property with a defined service path so future support does not depend on one person's memory.
Our Commissioning Process
Regent5 supports existing systems across Northern California, including San Francisco (Pacific Heights, Sea Cliff, Presidio Heights, Noe Valley and Russian Hill), the Peninsula, South Bay, East Bay, Marin, Wine Country and Carmel/Monterey. Ongoing service can include remote monitoring, scheduled site visits, firmware and lifecycle planning, network support, programming changes and phased modernization. The same takeover process applies to offices and other commercial spaces.
Explore Regent5 ServicesThe exact scope depends on the installed systems, but these are the recurring outputs that turn an undocumented property into a supportable technical environment.
Controllers, processors, network equipment, lighting panels, keypads, AV, cameras, access control, UPS systems and connected subsystems documented by location and role.
Customer accounts, dealer relationships, cloud services, subscriptions, remote-management access and available configuration or programming files mapped before changes begin.
Gateway, firewall, switching, VLANs, PoE, access points, wired uplinks, fiber links, roaming, coverage and internet dependencies evaluated as the foundation beneath automation.
Rack layout, labeling, ventilation, service clearance, UPS protection, surge protection, power dependencies and critical equipment conditions documented for reliability and serviceability.
Each major component is classified by supportability, condition and value so useful equipment is preserved, misconfiguration is corrected and replacement is limited to what the property actually needs.
Scenes, keypads, lighting processors, shade controls, room logic, touch interfaces and automation dependencies checked for failures, programming gaps and upgrade requirements.
Cameras, intercoms, gates, locks, access-control devices, network dependencies and backup-power requirements reviewed so security functions remain reliable during and after the transition.
Available programming files, controller backups, device configurations, driver dependencies and manufacturer-specific upgrade paths are reviewed before any modernization work is approved.
Immediate failures, near-term risks and long-term improvements are separated into phases so the property can be stabilized quickly without forcing an unnecessary whole-system replacement.
Updated records, account ownership, known dependencies, configuration backups where available, training needs and a defined remote/on-site support path are assembled for long-term stewardship.
Where we work.
Regent5 provides takeover, repair, modernization and ongoing support for existing smart-home, lighting-control, network and estate-technology systems across the San Francisco Bay Area and Northern California, including the Peninsula, San Francisco, South Bay, East Bay, Marin, Wine Country and Carmel/Monterey. Select engagements extend to Santa Barbara, the Los Angeles area, and Orange County.
Yes. Regent5 can assess systems originally installed by another integrator and determine what can be serviced, reprogrammed, documented or modernized. We begin with an audit of hardware, accounts, network infrastructure, programming access and current failures before proposing changes.
That is a common takeover scenario. We identify the installed platforms, establish what homeowner accounts and credentials are available, review dealer relationships and recover documentation or configuration files where possible. The immediate goal is to restore a supportable path for the property.
No. Our process separates equipment into keep, repair or reprogram, and replace. Supported hardware that is stable and appropriate can remain. Replacement is recommended when equipment is obsolete, unsupported, unreliable or prevents the system from being serviced properly.
Regent5 can assess existing Lutron, Control4, Savant, Crestron, Vantage and Josh.ai environments. Exact serviceability depends on the installed generation, manufacturer support, account ownership, available programming files and the condition of the network and supporting infrastructure.
Yes, subject to access and platform condition. We review gateway and controller ownership, switching, VLANs, Wi-Fi coverage, PoE, firmware, remote-management tools, account access and cabling before making changes. OvrC-managed environments can also be evaluated as part of the takeover.
Yes. Inherited systems are a core takeover use case. We identify what controls lighting, shades, AV, climate, security and networking; determine who owns the accounts; verify what still works; and build a service and modernization plan around the way the new owner wants to use the property.
Yes. The first visit covers system documentation, account and credential access, firmware state, programming access and a written condition report. For Control4, a dealer-of-record change is handled through Snap One when required. Savant and Crestron systems can be reprogrammed in house when the installed system and access permit it. Ongoing monitoring and support can then be structured through Regent5 service and support plans.
Closeout should leave the residence serviceable rather than dependent on installer memory. Depending on scope, that can include current as-builts, rack elevations, cable and device labeling, network and device records, configuration backups, programming and support access, owner-controlled account information, operating guidance, homeowner or household-staff training and a defined long-term service path.
Yes. The first visit documents cameras, networking, credentials, firmware and current ownership, then records the system condition in writing. Verkada takeovers can include a Command organization transfer, while UniFi takeovers can include console adoption and account cleanup when access and manufacturer requirements allow. Regent5 can then place the system on an ongoing service and support plan.
The physical network should be designed with security and serviceability in mind from the start. That can include separate network segments for owner devices, guests, cameras, building systems and IoT equipment; firewall and remote-access requirements; secure equipment locations; redundant internet where appropriate; and owner-controlled credentials and documentation at closeout.
Regent5 serves complex residential projects across Northern California, including Atherton, Hillsborough, Woodside, Portola Valley, Los Altos Hills, Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Saratoga, Los Gatos and San Francisco; Marin communities including Ross and Tiburon; and Carmel, Pebble Beach and the Monterey Peninsula. Project fit depends on scope, schedule and service requirements.
We begin with the property, the installed brands, the current symptoms and the access the owner already has. From there we inspect the racks, controllers, network, lighting and supporting systems, review accounts and documentation, and define the shortest path to a stable and supportable environment.
