Whole-Home Audio & Multi-Room Sound Installation

Distributed music for every room, terrace and pool house, with speakers, amplification, network and control designed as one system.

Whole-Home Audio Planned Around How the House Is Used

Whole-home audio starts with a zone plan: which rooms share music, which play on their own, and where a listening room or theater needs more than background sound. Regent5 maps zones, speaker locations, amplifier channels and equipment space during design, so ceilings, millwork and conduit are ready before finishes make changes difficult.

Multi-Room and Multi-Zone Audio Design

Multi-room audio plays the same music across connected spaces, while multi-zone audio lets each area run its own source and volume. Most large homes need both: the kitchen, great room and terrace grouped for entertaining, with offices, bedrooms and the gym kept separate. A single Sonos Amp Multi, for example, provides eight amplified outputs and up to four configurable zones from the equipment rack.

Centralized Amplification for Larger Residences

Large homes usually power their speakers from a central equipment room rather than a device in every space. AudioControl Director network amplifiers and Sonance PowerZone Connect amplifiers combine multi-zone power with onboard DSP, so each zone is tuned and monitored from the rack. Regent5 sizes channels and power to the speaker plan and documents every zone for service.

Architectural, Invisible & Small-Aperture Speakers

Speaker selection should follow the finish as much as the sound. In-ceiling and in-wall speakers cover most rooms, invisible panels finish over completely under plaster or paint, and small-aperture designs keep the opening close to the size of a downlight in detailed ceilings.

Regent5 designs with Sonance Visual Experience and Invisible Series speakers, Stealth Acoustics LineaRadiance invisible panels and James Loudspeaker small-aperture systems, with invisible or concealed subwoofers where a room needs bass without a visible cabinet.

Streaming, Hi-Res Music and Existing Equipment

The streaming platform decides how music reaches each zone. Sonos covers everyday whole-home listening with a familiar app, Bluesound BluOS adds lossless and hi-res playback up to 24-bit/192 kHz, and a Sonos Port or Bluesound NODE brings streaming to an existing amplifier or stereo. In design-led rooms, a Devialet Phantom Ultimate serves as a self-contained active speaker.

Outdoor Audio Zones for Terraces, Pools and Gardens

Outdoor music works best at moderate volume from many speakers rather than loud from a few. Regent5 designs terrace, pool and garden zones with Sonance Landscape Series satellites and in-ground subwoofers or Coastal Source bollards, placed away from property lines and run from the same app and controls as the house.

Simple Control, Reliable Streaming and Long-Term Service

Every zone should start from a keypad, a touchscreen, the streaming app or voice, without anyone needing to know which amplifier powers which room. Regent5 integrates audio with Savant, Control4, Crestron and Josh.ai where the home uses them, runs Ethernet to streaming devices wherever practical, and services the system after handover, including Sonos, Bluesound and AudioControl systems installed by others.

Whole-Home Audio FAQs

What is the difference between whole-home audio and multi-room audio?

The terms are often used interchangeably. Whole-home audio describes music available throughout the property, while multi-room and multi-zone describe how it is organized: rooms can be grouped to play the same music or run as independent zones with their own source and volume. Most large homes use both, with entertaining spaces grouped and private rooms kept separate.

Is wired or wireless whole-home audio better?

For a large home, wired speakers driven by centralized amplification are usually the more reliable foundation, because performance does not depend on Wi-Fi in every room. Wireless speakers such as Sonos Era or Bluesound PULSE suit rooms that cannot be wired and can join the same system. Regent5 often combines the two and runs Ethernet to streaming devices wherever practical.

Can whole-home audio be added to an existing home?

Yes. Regent5 reuses existing speaker wiring where it tests well, adds streaming to existing amplifiers with a Sonos Port or Bluesound NODE, and uses wireless speakers or carefully routed new cable where walls are finished. An assessment of the wiring, zone layout and equipment location comes first.

Who installs whole-home audio systems in the Bay Area?

Regent5 designs, installs and services whole-home audio and multi-room sound systems across the San Francisco Bay Area from its San Carlos showroom. Regent5 is an authorized Sonance dealer and works with Sonos, Bluesound, AudioControl, Stealth Acoustics and Coastal Source, with one team handling the speaker wiring, network, control and commissioning.

How much does a whole-home audio system cost?

It depends on the number of zones, the speaker types and finishes, amplification, outdoor coverage, the streaming platform and how the system is controlled. A figure without a zone plan or drawings would mislead, so Regent5 scopes each system at the Regent5 Showroom & Design Center in San Carlos or during a consultation.

Can Regent5 take over or expand an existing Sonos or distributed-audio system?

Yes. Regent5 services systems regardless of who installed them, including inherited Sonos, Bluesound and AudioControl installations. An assessment covers accounts, network health, speaker wiring, amplifier zones and control, then identifies what can stay, what should be updated and how new zones can be added.
