Lutron Lighting Control for Bay Area Estates

Regent5 designs, installs, programs and services Lutron lighting-control systems for custom homes and estates, including HomeWorks QSX, RadioRA 3, intelligent lighting, architectural keypads and motorized shading.

Lutron HomeWorks QSX and HomeWorks QS

Regent5 is a certified Lutron dealer with HomeWorks expertise. We design, install, service and upgrade Lutron lighting-control and shading systems for estates across Northern California. HomeWorks QSX is Lutron’s current processor-based platform for sophisticated whole-home lighting, shading and keypad control, while HomeWorks QS remains installed in many existing residences and is still part of our service and modernization work.

Lutron RadioRA 3 and RadioRA 2

RadioRA 3 is Lutron's current retrofit platform. It is wireless, so it goes into a finished house without opening walls, and it scales well beyond what retrofit systems once managed. RadioRA 2 is the previous generation, and Lutron now classifies it as a legacy system. A great many are still in service across the Peninsula and they continue to work. We service them, and when the time is right we convert them to RadioRA 3 by replacing the main repeater and connect bridge with a RadioRA 3 processor and converting the existing project file in Lutron Designer, so the original programming carries forward instead of being rebuilt from nothing.

What a lighting scene actually does

A scene is more than a dimmer preset. It can coordinate multiple circuits, shades and selected integrations with individual levels and transition times.

Room lit to match the colour of daylight at the window

WELCOME

Arrival lighting brings key circulation and living spaces up gently while exterior and entry lighting support the path into the home.

Room with art and decorative elements picked out by accent lighting

DAY

Task lighting and daylight work together while unnecessary decorative loads stay reduced.

Room with overhead lighting lowered and perimeter lighting held dim for a presentation

EVENING

Accent, art and decorative lighting rise while bright task layers step down for a warmer architectural composition.

Room with saturated colour on the architecture and white light on work surfaces

GOODNIGHT

A single command can shut down selected interior loads, close shades and leave only the lighting needed for safe nighttime circulation.

Regent5 programs scene logic after the lighting plan, fixtures and homeowner routines are understood so buttons describe useful outcomes instead of individual loads.

Ketra Lighting Design and Installation

Regent5 designs Lutron lighting-control systems around the architecture, fixture schedule and daily use of the home. HomeWorks QSX and RadioRA 3 can coordinate conventional dimming, intelligent lighting, keypads, shades, schedules and whole-home scenes so the homeowner interacts with one consistent control language instead of separate apps and disconnected devices.

Lutron Shading, Drapery, and Palladiom Controls

We install Lutron Palladiom and Sivoia QS shading, roller and Roman shades, and motorized drapery, specified alongside the lighting rather than after it. Conrad custom shades go in where the fabric is the point. Palladiom keypads and shade hardware are machined components with real presence in a room, so finish selection is a design decision made with the architect and the interior designer, not a line item chosen from a catalogue at the end. Shade pockets, fascia details, and power routing get coordinated at drawing stage, because a shade that was not planned for is visible for the life of the house.

A lighting-control system is three layers working together

The processor and network carry the logic, load controls actually dim or switch the fixtures, and keypads give the homeowner a simple interface. All three must be designed together.

Regent5 coordinates the control architecture with the electrical one-line, fixture schedule, dimming protocols, panel locations, shade system and integration requirements before programming begins.

Control Platform

PROCESSORS + NETWORK

HomeWorks QSX or RadioRA 3 provides the system logic, scheduling, app control and integration layer.

Loads, Keypads & Fixtures

THE PARTS PEOPLE TOUCH

Dimmers, modules, intelligent light sources, shades and architectural keypads turn that logic into the actual room experience.

Fixture compatibility and dimming behavior are engineering inputs, not details to discover during commissioning.

Keypad button counts, engraving and scene names are developed with the homeowner and design team before final programming.

CENTRALIZED / HYBRID

HomeWorks can centralize lighting loads in panels, mix wired and wireless controls, and scale across complex residences and estates.

DISTRIBUTED / RETROFIT

RadioRA 3 keeps load control closer to the rooms and is often the cleaner path when opening walls for centralized wiring is unnecessary.

The platform decision should happen before the keypad schedule, panel layout and fixture controls are finalized. Regent5 reviews the electrical and lighting plans first.

Service and Upgrades on Existing Lutron Systems

Regent5 services Lutron systems installed by other companies. If your original dealer has retired, closed, or stopped returning calls, we will take the system on. We hold Lutron HomeWorks certification, which is what gives us access to the legacy programming software for older HomeWorks generations. That access matters more than it sounds: the design software for HomeWorks Illumination is distributed by Lutron only to HomeWorks certified dealers, so a firm without that certification cannot obtain the tool, let alone open your project file. We assess, service, and upgrade HomeWorks Interactive, HomeWorks Illumination, HomeWorks QS, and RadioRA 2 systems, and we plan every migration against the panel, the wiring, and the devices that are actually in the house.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is a Lutron lighting control system priced?

Pricing depends on the platform, controlled-load count, shade scope, intelligent-lighting requirements, keypad design and programming—not a fixed package. A RadioRA 3 retrofit and a panelized HomeWorks QSX project are different systems, so Regent5 reviews the drawings and existing conditions before defining scope.

A sensible specification puts Ketra where materials and art demand it and runs Rania or Lumaris elsewhere on the same system. That is not a way to spend less, it is the correct answer, and working it out properly requires the drawings.

Color rendering and white-light range are best judged in person, not from a screen or specification sheet. The Regent5 Showroom & Design Center has Ketra, Rania and Lumaris installed so the comparison can be made on real materials before anything is specified.

Are you a certified Lutron dealer?

Yes. Regent5 is a Lutron dealer with HomeWorks certification and provides design, programming, installation, service and modernization for Lutron lighting-control and shading systems, including systems originally installed by other companies.

Do you install Lutron in Sonoma, Napa, and the North Bay?

Yes. Regent5 supports Lutron projects across the San Francisco Bay Area and Northern California, including the Peninsula, San Francisco, Marin, Wine Country and the Monterey Peninsula, with select project coverage extending farther south.

How do Lutron HomeWorks, RadioRA 3, Caséta, Vantage, Crestron and Control4 lighting control differ?

They differ in control architecture, load hardware, keypad options, wiring approach, programming model, shading integration, retrofit suitability and long-term service strategy. Regent5 evaluates the construction stage, loads, fixture protocols, keypads, shades and automation platform before recommending a system.

Can landscape and outdoor lighting be controlled by Lutron and whole-home automation?

Yes. Landscape, architectural, pathway, entry and selected outdoor entertainment lighting can participate in schedules, scenes and whole-property commands. The design still needs to account for transformers, fixture types, dimming, service access and landscape zones.

Can Regent5 service or upgrade an existing Lutron system installed by another dealer?

Yes. Regent5 services and upgrades existing Lutron systems, including HomeWorks legacy generations, HomeWorks QS, RadioRA 2, HomeWorks QSX and RadioRA 3. We assess processors, panels, wiring, keypads, shades and project files before recommending repair, migration or replacement.

The value is visual and architectural: the house can move gradually from cooler daytime settings to warmer evening scenes without abrupt jumps or manual adjustment. Regent5 treats those transitions as design decisions—timing, intensity and color temperature are tuned to the spaces, finishes and how the household actually uses them.

Lutron HomeWorks QSX or RadioRA 3: which is better for my home?

HomeWorks QSX is typically chosen for larger or more complex residences and projects where centralized panels, extensive keypads, shading and deep integration can be planned from the beginning. RadioRA 3 is often an excellent fit for existing homes and substantial retrofits with less invasive rewiring.

Can Lutron lighting respond automatically to daylight and time of day?

Yes. Lutron systems can coordinate schedules, scenes, sensors, tunable lighting and supported shading behavior so the home responds differently throughout the day while remaining predictable to the people living there.

Can Lutron HomeWorks integrate with voice control and whole-home automation?

Yes. Lutron lighting and shading can participate in supported voice and whole-home automation environments while remaining a dependable dedicated subsystem for local lighting control.

How do Ketra, Rania, Lumaris, tunable white and warm-dim lighting differ?

Ketra provides Lutron’s broadest full-spectrum and color capability. Rania focuses on natural white light. Lumaris adds retrofit-friendly tunable-white downlights and linear lighting. Warm-dim fixtures shift warmer as they dim, while tunable-white sources can change color temperature independently within their supported range.

The reason to care is what happens at dusk. A house running Ketra inside and conventional fixtures outside has an obvious seam at the glass, where the interior renders warmly and truthfully and the garden sits under something flatter and greener.

How are Lutron keypads planned for a custom home?

Keypad planning should begin with room use and scenes, not button count. Regent5 coordinates locations, engraving, finish, button logic, lighting scenes, shades and whole-home commands with the interior design and homeowner routines.

Why use a professionally engineered lighting-control system instead of smart bulbs and Wi-Fi switches?

A professionally engineered lighting-control system is permanent residential infrastructure. It coordinates loads, scenes, shades, sensors and intelligent lighting without making basic wall control depend on consumer Wi-Fi, and it is documented, commissioned and serviceable over the long term.
