Lutron Lighting Control for Bay Area Estates

Lighting plays a critical role in the comfort, functionality, and atmosphere of a home. Regent5 designs and installs advanced lighting control and motorized shading systems that allow homeowners to control the lighting environment throughout their entire property. Our lighting systems integrate architectural lighting, decorative fixtures, motorized shades, and daylight management into a unified control platform. These systems allow lighting scenes to automatically adjust based on time of day, occupancy, or homeowner preferences.Regent5 specializes in premium lighting control platforms including Lutron RadioRA3 systems, Lutron HomeWorks QSX systems, as well as lighting integration through Savant automation systems and Control4 lighting systems.

Lutron HomeWorks QSX and HomeWorks QS

Regent5 is a certified Lutron dealer holding Lutron HomeWorks certification, and a C10 and C7 licensed contractor, CSLB License 1033103. We design, install, service, and upgrade Lutron lighting control and shading systems for estates in Atherton, Woodside, Portola Valley, Hillsborough, Los Altos Hills, Los Altos, Menlo Park, Palo Alto, and San Francisco. HomeWorks QSX is Lutron's current processor-based platform for whole-estate lighting, shading, and keypad control. It is specified on new construction and gut remodels, where the lighting design, the shade design, and the control layer are drawn together before rough-in rather than reconciled afterward. HomeWorks QS is the prior generation, installed across a large number of Peninsula estates, still functional and still supported.

Lutron RadioRA 3 and RadioRA 2

RadioRA 3 is Lutron's current retrofit platform. It is wireless, so it goes into a finished house without opening walls, and it scales well beyond what retrofit systems once managed. RadioRA 2 is the previous generation, and Lutron now classifies it as a legacy system. A great many are still in service across the Peninsula and they continue to work. We service them, and when the time is right we convert them to RadioRA 3 by replacing the main repeater and connect bridge with a RadioRA 3 processor and converting the existing project file in Lutron Designer, so the original programming carries forward instead of being rebuilt from nothing.

Ketra Lighting Design and Installation

Regent5 is a certified Ketra dealer. Ketra fixtures render color and shift white point in a way conventional LED does not, which matters in galleries, kitchens, dressing rooms, and any space displaying art. Ketra integrates directly with HomeWorks, so tunable white and color scenes sit on the same keypads and the same schedules as the rest of the lighting rather than living in a separate app. We operate two dedicated Ketra rooms in our San Carlos design center, where color rendering can be judged against real finishes and real artwork instead of a specification sheet.

Lutron Shading, Drapery, and Palladiom Controls

We install Lutron Palladiom and Sivoia QS shading, roller and Roman shades, and motorized drapery, specified alongside the lighting rather than after it. Conrad custom shades go in where the fabric is the point. Palladiom keypads and shade hardware are machined components with real presence in a room, so finish selection is a design decision made with the architect and the interior designer, not a line item chosen from a catalogue at the end. Shade pockets, fascia details, and power routing get coordinated at drawing stage, because a shade that was not planned for is visible for the life of the house.

Service and Upgrades on Existing Lutron Systems

Regent5 services Lutron systems installed by other companies. If your original dealer has retired, closed, or stopped returning calls, we will take the system on. We hold Lutron HomeWorks certification, which is what gives us access to the legacy programming software for older HomeWorks generations. That access matters more than it sounds: the design software for HomeWorks Illumination is distributed by Lutron only to HomeWorks certified dealers, so a firm without that certification cannot obtain the tool, let alone open your project file. We assess, service, and upgrade HomeWorks Interactive, HomeWorks Illumination, HomeWorks QS, and RadioRA 2 systems, and we plan every migration against the panel, the wiring, and the devices that are actually in the house.

The San Carlos Design Center

Our San Carlos design center has Lutron keypad styles, finishes, and engraving options on display and working, alongside premium Lutron shades and drapery, Conrad fabrics, and two Ketra color rendering rooms. Owners, architects, builders, interior designers, and owner's representatives are welcome by appointment. Selecting keypad finish and engraving in person, against the actual fabric and under the actual light, removes most of the revision cycles that otherwise happen after installation.

What a scene actually does

The same kitchen, the same fixtures, two button presses apart. This is the part of lighting control that is difficult to describe and obvious to see.

Kitchen under a bright daytime lighting scene on a Lutron system

Daytime

Downlights and task lighting at full output, cove lighting off, shades open.

The same kitchen under a dimmed evening lighting scene

Evening

Downlights pulled back, cove lighting carrying the ceiling, accent light on the architecture.

Neither of these is a dimmer set by hand. Each is a scene, with every circuit assigned its own level, recalled from one button. The work is in deciding which circuits belong in which scene and at what level, and that is a design exercise carried out against the fixture schedule before anything is programmed.

Keypads, finishes, and engraving

Keypad line, finish, and engraving are design decisions, not hardware selections, and they are difficult to judge from a sample card. Every Lutron keypad line and every finish is on display and operating in our San Carlos design center, where you can see them against real materials under real light.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is a Lutron lighting control system priced?

By the platform, the circuit count, and the design work, not by a package. A wireless RadioRA 3 retrofit in a finished house and a panelised HomeWorks QSX system on a new build are different projects with different scopes, and the right answer depends on the drawings.

We do not publish figures, because a number stated without a fixture schedule describes a house that does not exist. What we can do is tell you which platform your project actually needs, which is the decision that moves the budget more than any line item.

Every keypad line, both platforms, and all three Lutron light sources are on display and operating in our San Carlos design center. That conversation is more useful than a figure and there is no charge for it.

Are you a certified Lutron dealer?

Yes. Regent5 holds Lutron dealer status with HomeWorks certification, and we are a C10 and C7 licensed contractor, CSLB License 1033103. One licensed contractor covers both the electrical and the low voltage scope, which architects and builders tend to care about more than owners do. We also service Lutron systems regardless of who installed them.

Do you install Lutron in Sonoma, Napa, and the North Bay?

Yes. Our core work is on the Peninsula, in Atherton, Woodside, Portola Valley, Hillsborough, Los Altos Hills, Palo Alto, and San Francisco, and we also work in Sonoma, Napa, Ross, Tiburon, Belvedere, Carmel, and Pebble Beach. Our design center is in San Carlos.

How do Lutron HomeWorks, RadioRA 3, Caséta, Vantage, Crestron and Control4 lighting control differ?

They are not interchangeable versions of the same product. They differ in control architecture, load-control hardware, keypad options, wiring approach, programming model, shading integration, retrofit suitability, whole-home integration, and long-term service strategy. Regent5 evaluates the construction stage, controlled loads, fixture and dimming requirements, keypad goals, motorized shading, automation platform, existing equipment, and service expectations before recommending a system.

Can landscape and outdoor lighting be controlled by Lutron and whole-home automation?

Yes. Landscape, architectural, pathway, entry, water-feature, pool-area, and selected outdoor entertainment lighting can participate in schedules, scenes, astronomical events, and property-wide commands. The control strategy still needs to be designed around the electrical loads, transformers, fixture types, dimming requirements, service access, landscape zones, and how the property is used after dark.

Can Regent5 service or upgrade an existing Lutron system installed by another dealer?

Yes. Regent5 services and upgrades existing Lutron systems, including projects originally installed by other companies. We assess the processor generation, panels, wiring, keypads, shades, programming files, and device condition before recommending repair, migration, or replacement. That includes legacy HomeWorks generations, HomeWorks QS, RadioRA 2, and current HomeWorks QSX and RadioRA 3 systems.

Lutron HomeWorks QSX or RadioRA 3: which is better for my home?

HomeWorks QSX is typically considered for larger or more complex residences, especially new construction and major remodels where centralized panels, extensive keypads, shading, and deep integration can be planned from the beginning. RadioRA 3 is often an excellent fit for existing homes and substantial retrofits because it can provide whole-home control with less invasive rewiring. The right choice depends on the loads, construction stage, architecture, shading, fixtures, integrations, and long-term service requirements.

Can Lutron lighting respond automatically to daylight and time of day?

Yes. Lutron systems can coordinate schedules, scenes, sensors, tunable lighting, and supported shading features so the home responds differently throughout the day. Regent5 treats daylight, electric light, shading, keypad behavior, and automation as one design problem so automatic behavior remains predictable and understandable to the people living in the home.

Can Lutron HomeWorks integrate with Apple Home, voice control and whole-home automation?

Yes. Lutron systems can participate in broader supported voice and automation environments. On larger estates, Regent5 typically keeps Lutron lighting and shading as a dependable dedicated subsystem and then exposes the appropriate functions to the whole-home automation platform. That preserves reliable local lighting control while still giving the homeowner a unified interface.

How do Ketra, Rania, Lumaris, tunable white and warm-dim lighting differ?

They solve different lighting-design problems. Ketra is intended for projects that need broad color capability and highly adjustable white light. Rania focuses on natural white light, while Lumaris includes Lutron linear and downlight options for tunable-white and warm-dim applications. Traditional warm-dim fixtures shift warmer as they dim, while tunable-white systems can adjust color temperature independently from brightness within the fixture’s supported range.

How are Lutron keypads planned for a custom home?

Keypad design should begin with room use and scenes, not button count. Regent5 coordinates keypad locations, engraving, finish, button logic, lighting scenes, shades, and whole-home commands with the interior design and the way the household actually moves through the property. For larger projects, our in-house CAD and drafting team can coordinate keypad locations and control intent before rough-in, with final engraving and programming refined during commissioning.

Why use a professionally engineered lighting-control system instead of smart bulbs and WiFi switches?

A whole-home lighting-control system is designed as permanent residential infrastructure. It can coordinate many loads, keypads, scenes, shades, occupancy behavior, tunable lighting, and automation without making every wall control or fixture depend on consumer WiFi. The engineering value is in load compatibility, panel and device selection, wiring, dimming performance, programming standards, documentation, commissioning, and long-term service.
